VIN Decoder

Enter any Tesla VIN to check SC01 eligibility based on build date. If the VIN is in our database we show the SC code on record. Otherwise we estimate the build date using production data, refined by every verified VIN in our database.

Important: this tool shows the original SC code, not necessarily what is on the car today.

The SC code returned is the code Tesla assigned when the car was first sold, sometimes many years ago. SC codes can change. Tesla can remove SC01 for reasons that aren't always visible to a buyer. A VIN that was eligible at the factory may no longer have SC01 today.

Use this tool to confirm whether the car was ever sold with SC01 or not. If it was, you must verify the current SC code with either the seller or directly with Tesla before you buy - they are the only two resources that can give a definitive answer.

See the Tesla Account API and Compositor methods on the verify page.

Known VINs return the SC code on record from our database. Unknown VINs are estimated using production data refined by our growing collection of verified VINs. Verification guide →

How It Works

1

Database First

We check our database of verified VINs. If there's a match, you see the SC code on record and manufacture date.

2

Calibrated Estimate

No match? We estimate the build date using the VIN serial number, refined by every verified VIN in our database. More VINs = tighter range.

3

Verify With the Seller

SC01 can be removed. This tool identifies eligible vehicles — always confirm the current SC code directly with the seller before purchasing.
